 Introduction to Media Representations

Lo; to explore the concepts of representation & stereotypes.

What is meant by the term representation?

The media offers the audience an interpretation of the world.

It's a re presentation of the events  people and places.

Stereotypical

A stereotype is a generalised representation of a person, place or thing. They are limited and often offensive or used for comedy.

In a Cornish school, the stereotype is much more offensive, like more racism or homophobia because there's less people who are essentially "different" because of lack of diversity. The stereotype would be much poorer and there would be a lot less control. There's more cornish things like farmers and strong accents because of the things that people make of the county. The stereotypical thought of the only food the school would need to sell is pasties and scones.
